Six People Displaced, Three Firefighters Treated For Heat Exhaustion At Bristol Scene

Three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and six people were displaced in a Monday afternoon house fire.

The fire damaged a home in the 200 block of Otter Street in Bristol Borough. The call went out at 1:13 p.m. and drew a response from numerous fire companies from the Levittown area and Bensalem.

Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack said the initial call reported that there was a person entrapped in the home that was ablaze. Further investigation uncovered that the missing person was actually at the library and the single-family home was empty at the time.

The fire appeared to have started in the basement and spread, causing heavy smoke and made it difficult for crews to reach the flames, Slack said.

Investigators from the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office were on the scene working to determine the cause.

Slack told reporters that the warm weather that felled three firefighters and storage items around the house caused trouble fire responders. One of the firefighters were transported to the hospital and two were treated at the scene, police Sgt. Pete Faight said.

Medics handed out water to firefighters as they took of their bunker gear under the warm spring sun.
