The final phase of the Neshaminy School District’s upgrades to elementary schools is scheduled to begin later this spring.
The school board recently approved Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) work for Walter Miller Elementary School on Cobalt Ridge Drive South and a minor upgrade to Pearl Buck Elementary School on Top Road, both in Middletown’s Levittown section. The contract for roughly $3.05 million in work was awarded to Reynolds Energy Services, who will then hire their own contractors to complete the project.

At Miller, the school will receive an overhaul on its HVAC system and power panels and connections along with a digital temperature control system and security vestibule. Reynolds representative Damion Spahr confirmed the entire school will receive air conditioning.
The work at Buck will include adding a security vestibule.
The upgrades at Buck and Miller follow other GESA upgrades at all of the district’s elementary schools and Carl Sandburg and Poquessing middle schools.

The three-phase GESA projects have cost about $35 million. Funding for the projects came mostly from a $58 million 2015 bond that was also used to pay for the roughly $30 million Tawanka Elementary School. The remaining cost came from a Neshaminy fund set up for building upgrades.
GESA upgrades to the schools are expected to save operating expenses over the next two decades due to increased efficiency.
