The storyline revolves around Odysseus’ return home from the Trojan War that turns into a 10-year journey where he encounters mystical creatures and faces the wrath of gods. Meanwhile, his wife Penelope and their son Telemachus stave off suitors vying for Penelope’s hand and Ithaca’s throne. Odysseus needs to prove his identity, defeat the suitors and recapture the throne over the course of two acts with one intermission.
It has been more than a decade since a full drama has been staged at the East Campus and not the West Campus Orange Auditorium (commonly referred to as the Cave). The set design, special effects and lighting requirements envisioned for this production called for the change in venue. The Odyssey will showcase a large cast, crew and two student directors.
Audience members are sure to be pleased as PHS has a strong reputation for excellence in the performing arts. Alumni currently performing on stage and screen include recording artist and actor Matthew Schuler (“I’m Not Ashamed” and The Voice), actor Ryan McBride (Mamma Mia and West Side Story at Chicago’s Paramount Theatre), dancer and actress Megan Elyse Fulmer (The Bodyguard Musical and Straight Outta Oz) and Broadway notable Christy Altomare (Anastasia, Spring Awakening first national tour and Mamma Mia on Broadway) among many others.

Troupe members and volunteers have been working to ensure a continuation of theatre arts opportunities for PHS students through a variety of fundraising initiatives and have been working to garner support through social media promotional messages. Refreshment tables and other fundraising items will be available during intermission. “The Odyssey” show tickets are $10 and available at the door prior to performance.
