D.A.R.E. Program Returning To Bristol Schools

At Monday evening’s work session, Bristol Borough Council voted to fund the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program at the borough’s schools.

The funding, coming in at $1,500, will go towards items such as t-shirts, diplomas and other similar items for the program that educates students and discourages them from doing drugs.

Police Chief Steve Henry made it clear that the program will not cost the borough overtime in police pay and that the program will be conducted while the instructing officer is on the clock for regular hours.

The program was put on hold after one year in, 2015 when Sgt. Carlos Rivera, the certified DARE instructor for the department, went on military leave.

St. Mark’s school will also be served by the program along with the borough’s two public schools.
