Students at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School took part in the annual Super Duper Bowl last Friday.

The flag football game at the Falls Township elementary school featured fifth graders playing against one another and even a halftime show that included cheerleaders’ choreographed routines.

The game is the culmination of weeks of recesses-time practice to gear up for the big game that drew parents and students of all grades. After each match up, students congratulated one another and even shook hands. On the sidelines, younger students cheered on their peers.

The school uses the game as the backdrop for lessons on good sportsmanship and fair play. The real-life lessons tie in with the school’s character education initiative of teaching and showing respect, kindness, responsibility, cooperation and giving their best effort.

The game also involved students raising funds for new playground equipment for their school and the collection of canned food items that were donated to the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter in Bristol Township.
