The Pennsbury Education Foundation (PEF) recently awarded 12 grants to schools across the Pennsbury School District, totaling $13,904.

The PEF is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and supports the purpose of improving teaching and learning in Pennsbury through innovative educational initiatives. Grants are awarded through an application process that occurs twice each year.
“The PEF Board is pleased to support a variety of school initiatives through our first round of grants for the current academic year. A second round will be held this spring. We value the work that our teachers do in the classroom, and we look for effective ways to distribute funds to benefit students,” said Annette Young, PEF president.
The following grant recipients were announced:
- Manor Elementary Principal Terri Salvucci and teacher Lauren Jacoby – $700 to fund six RAZ Kids site licenses for student reading;
- Penn Valley Elementary Principal Barbara Hidalgo and school counselor Arlene Johnson – $600 to purchase one Boxcast unit for school announcements;
- Penn Valley Elementary Principal Barbara Hidalgo and teacher Jennifer Gatt – $737.00 to purchase multi-pocket chair organizers for student math materials;
- Quarry Hill Elementary Principal Dr. Peggy Schiavone and teacher Valarie Engle – $500 for a Rocks and Minerals Fossil Show and Dinosaur Dig;
- Charles Boehm Principal Theresa Ricci and teacher Christian Korn – $1,104.10 to purchase five standing desks for students;
- William Penn Middle School Principal Christopher Becker and teachers Kristin Slota, Kelly Giacomelli, and Bridget Blackshire – $500 to partially fund the purchase of K’NEX class sets;
- Pennsbury High School West Principal Lisa Becker and Science Curriculum Coordinator Jamie Swanson – $502 to purchase 30 licenses for Universal Sandbox – Astronomy;
- Pennsbury High School West Principal Lisa Becker and Science Curriculum Coordinator Jamie Swanson – $4,000 to purchase one interactive TV;
- Pennsbury High School West Principal Lisa Becker, Applied Engineering/Technology Education Curriculum Coordinator Jessica Perfetto, and teacher Richard Stellwagen – $1,600 to purchase Arduino programming kits for Robotics classes;
- Pennsbury High School West Principal Lisa Becker and teacher Mindy Procz – $900 to purchase Fatal Vision goggles for student learning;
- Pennsbury High School East Principal Reggie Meadows and teacher Jonathan Twersky – $1,260.50 to purchase a potters’ wheel;
- Pennsbury High School East Principal Reggie Meadows and teacher Laura Rockwell – $1,500 for Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre’s performance of Hamlet at PHS.

In addition to gathering generous donations from local funding sources and individual donors, the PEF also participates in the PA Department of Community and Economic Development’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, which awards tax credits to businesses making contributions to the PEF.
