A homeless man who may have been going through drug withdraw or having a mental health episode is accused of threatening to kill a dog and smashing windows, charging documents allege.
Middletown police said they were called to a home on Tollgate Road for a report of a man threatening to kill the caller’s dog with a knife. Officers arrived to find George Loveless III, 18, outside the home around 10 p.m. Tuesday with blood coming from visible dog bite wounds on both his arms. He was taken into custody as police tried to figure out what happened.

The family member who lives in the Tollgate Road home told police she let Loveless stay in the house because he is homeless and the weather was frigid.
The woman told officers Loveless demanded her car keys after she came home from work and became angry when she refused to turn them over. As he grew more angered, Loveless grabbed a steak knife in the kitchen and started to threaten the family member’s 4-year-old pit bull, Bruno. After he held the knife to the dog, the woman tried to push and hit Loveless to get him to stop, police said.
The dog ended up biting Loveless on both arms during the incident, police said.

Loveless is accused of then going outside the home and throwing landscape rocks through the five large front windows, police said.
A police officer wrote in paperwork that there was a “massive amount” of smashed glass. The exact cost of the damage is uncertain, but officers believe it to be several thousand dollars, according to the criminal complaint.

Loveless is charged with six misdemeanors including making terroristic threats, criminal mischief, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and harassment. His bail was set at 10 percent of $100,000.
