Middletown will enter 2017 without a tax increase.

Earlier this month, the Middletown Board of Supervisors voted to approve the 2017 spending plan that comes in just under $30 million. The township tax millage rate will remain at 17.570.

The approved budget includes numerous improvements for 2017, including the paving of 45 miles of township roadway which has been conducted as part of the road improvement program, and the plans for $1.5 million being dedicated to road paving during 2017. Proposed capital expenditures, which includes road improvements, storm sewer projects and vehicle replacements, will total nearly $6 million.

The township is expected to lose some earned income tax (EIT) revenue in 2017 as more towns implement the revenue generating tax.

Police services continue to be largest expenditure in the budget.

Township Manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls explained to LevittownNow.com in fall that a small chunk of the ย real estate tax will be reallocated to help fund the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad and the volunteer fire companies. The reallocated funding equals about 3/4 of a mill and will be in addition to the fire services tax.

She also said the township will continue to seek grant revenue to fund projects and keep taxes level.

Middletown has about $41 million in its reserve account that earns interest.
