A car burst into flames along Route 1 in Middletown Friday morning.
The fire happened around 10:45 a.m. in the left lane o northbound Route 1 between the Maple Avenue (Route 213) exit and I-95 exit.

The fire marshal’s office and police were first on scene and firefighters arrived a few minutes later to put down the flames.
As of 11 a.m., traffic remained backup in the northbound lanes.
