Historic Bristol Borough is welcoming the Christmas season this weekend.
On Friday, Bristol’s Old Fashioned Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at the base of Mill Street where it meets Radcliffe Street starting at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature Christmas caroling, other holiday traditions and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus himself. Organizers say the tree lighting is rain or shine.

The festivities continue Saturday when the annual Bristol Borough Christmas Parade steps off at 1 p.m. from Green Lane and Farragut Avenue. The parade will then march down Farragut Avenue to Pond Street before ending near the King George II Inn on Mill Street. The parade will feature local first responders, musicians, classic cards and costumed characters. The finale includes Santa and Mrs. Klaus traveling down the parade route greeting all the children. In the case of a rain cancellation, the parade will take place Sunday.
The annual parade has been a tradition in Bristol Borough for more than 50 years.
