About three dozen people gathered outside United Christian Church on New Falls Road in Falls Township Tuesday evening to raise awareness and stand in support of the those protesting the under construction Dakota Access Pipeline.

Many of those who took part of the event said their goals were to inform local residents about the Dakota Access Pipeline and support clean drinking water, which they say would be threatened if the pipeline is constructed through North Dakota and South Dakota.

“There is no distance on planet Earth. We all still have to drink water, clean water,” said Levittown resident Debbie Cavanaugh, adding that the pipeline is threatening the area that truly belongs to Native Americans.

Protesters at the site of the pipeline construction area are trying to block further work on the Dakota Access Pipeline due to fears a rupture or leak could contaminate the water for Native Americans and thousands more people who are downstream.

“This is hundreds of nations coming together to stand up for indigenous people and for all people,” said Bordentown, New Jersey resident Scott Evans. “This is about our water. This isn’t about race or culture, it’s about water.”

From cars to SEPTA buses, drivers honked in support of the protesters. However, at least two passing drivers yelled “Trump!” at those gathered along New Falls Road.

The Falls gathering was part of numerous similar events across the country, including a rally in the heart of Doylestown Borough.
