Falls Twp. Board Of Supervisors To Vote On Medical Marijuana Ordinance Next Month

The Falls Township Board of Supervisors is considering an ordinance in response to Pennsylvania’s legalization of medical marijuana.

In a press release, the township outlined the proposal: “The proposed ordinance outlines where medical marijuana operations are not permitted, namely within 1,000 feet of a school, park, daycare center, community center or worship site. Medical marijuana operations would be permitted in Falls Township’s highway commercial; materials processing and manufacturing; and farming and mining districts.”

The ordinance makes a point to mark the difference between a medical marijuana grower and a medical marijuana dispensary. Under the proposal, growing and dispensing operations must be in separate facilities.

The township said the ordinance will require medical marijuana grower and dispensary operations to be entirely indoors, enclosed and in a secure facility. The grower and dispenser would be required to keep records, operate a surveillance system  and specify a 24-security plan.

Sidewalk displays, drive-thru service and exterior sales and radio and TV advertisements of the medical marijuana business would not be allowed, according to the draft ordinance.

The board is set to cast their votes on the proposed ordinance at their November 7 meeting.

“The state has made some changes in the legality of medical marijuana,” Falls Supervisors Chairman Bob Harvie said. “We want to start putting in place some concrete definitions about where these facilities can be located.”

Middleltown is also considering a similar ordinance that will be voted on at an upcoming meeting.
