Emergency responders were called to the scene around 7:05 p.m. to help search for the man after Amtrak crews could not locate him.

Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon said the man was eventually discovered alive near the tracks not far from where he was hit.

Amtrak train 193 was heading from New York City to Washington D.C. when the man was struck, transit agency spokesman Mike Tolbert said.

A Wilmington resident who was on the train told LevittownNow.com he heard the train strike the man. A short time later the conductor told the passengers what happened.

The train let passengers out at SEPTA’s nearby Croydon Regional Rail Station. Some passengers took cabs and ride shares while others waited for another Amtrak train to take them to their destinations.

As of 8:30 p.m., there were some delays on the Northeast Regional line due to the incident, Tolbert said.
