Michele A. Spack was named Director of Elementary Education for the Pennsbury School District by the Board of School Directors at the public meeting held on Thursday evening. Ms. Spack, who has served as Principal at Edgewood Elementary School in Pennsbury since 2001, will assume this new role at Central Office once a new Principal has been selected to lead the Edgewood Elementary School community.

“Throughout the interview process, numerous members of the community met with Ms. Spack and spoke to her passion, commitment, intellect, and sound decision-making that she continues to demonstrate as an educational leader,” said Pennsbury Superintendent Dr. William Gretzula. “I look forward to supporting Ms. Spack’s growth and transition into this new leadership opportunity for her and our District.”
The Director of Elementary Education is responsible to the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent for the effective coordination and delivery of programs of teaching and learning and for the effective administration of the District elementary school program. In her new position, Ms. Spack will supervise and evaluate all elementary building Principals. She will also manage the District calendar, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities, and collaborate with the departments of Pupil Services, Human Resources, Financial Services, Technology, and Facilities.

“I am so excited and honored to serve the District as the Director of Elementary Education,” said Ms. Spack. “I am very appreciative of this opportunity and I am looking forward to working closely with Dr. Gretzula, Dr. Dunar, and all of the elementary Principals to make a difference for all students across the elementary division.” She continued: “I am also sad to be leaving Edgewood. It has been my home away from home for the past 15 years. It is an amazing community of staff, students, and parents. This has been an incredible journey and I know that the traditions and excellence in education will continue. I know the Edgewood students will continue to R.O.A.R.! I will cherish all of my memories and will continue to serve not only Edgewood, but also all of the Pennsbury elementary schools.
Ms. Spack first came to Pennsbury in 1991 as an elementary teacher at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School. In 1998, she was appointed to serve in an Administrative Intern capacity at Quarry Hill Elementary and Oxford Valley Elementary. From 2000-2001, Ms. Spack was also an Administrative Intern in the Special Education Department. In 2001, Ms. Spack was appointed to serve as Principal at Edgewood Elementary and in 2015, she led Edgewood to be named a State and National School of Character by character.org in Washington, D.C. Related administrative experience in Pennsbury includes her role as Supervisor of Gifted Curriculum K-12, team leader for Comprehensive Planning, a member of the Everyday Math 4 Committee and the Elementary Report Card Committee, Supervisor of Elementary Administrative Interns, and service as a mentor to new elementary Principals. Prior to joining Pennsbury, Ms. Spack taught elementary school in the Paradise Valley School District in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ms. Spack holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, and obtained her certification as a K-12 Principal and Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction from The College of New Jersey.
