A Levittown man who assaulted his motherย and attempted to assault police officers in January was sentenced to three and a halfย to nineย years in prison last week.

The sentence imposed by Bucks County President Judge Jeffrey L. Finley onย Davidย Zorger Jr., 51, breaks down to aย 18-month to four-year sentence for the parole violation, followed by a consecutive two- to five-year sentence for the January assaults.

During the January incident, Zorger pushed a table into his 72-year-old mom in Bristol Townshipย before chasing her out of his house on Copper Beach Lane in Levittown with a kitchen knife. When officersย arrived, he apparently screwed the front door shut with a power drill and proceeded to throw the drill through the window at officers. He was eventually detained after he was shot with two Taserย blasts.

According to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Zorger was already on parole for a knife attack whereย he used a table and knife against his mother.

On June 13, Zorger plead guilty to a number of counts relating to aggravated assault on June 13. According to released information, the sentencing was delayed to allow for a psychiatric evaluation.

Zorger said last week in court thatย he didn’t intend to harm anyone but himself and only drilled the door shut so that the officers couldn’t interfere with his plans to kill himself.

The 51 year oldย asked Finleyย to be sent to a treatment facility in Philadelphia for drug and mental health afflictions, but Finley declined the request. The judge cited Zorger’s proven danger to the community.

Zorger told the Finley that he had completed anger-management classes and taken part in courses forย drug and alcohol abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder at the county prison.

โ€œI donโ€™t dispute that you suffer from mental illness,โ€ the judge told him. โ€œBut you are a danger to the community. You have shown that.โ€
