Middletown Comes Together For National Night Out

When Middletown police Officer Melissa Robison was tasked with putting together the town’s National Night Out, she hoped to fill the Municipal Complex’s parking lot with activities and residents. On Tuesday evening, the event ended up filling the parking lot and the streets and lots surrounding the area, too.

Nearly 1,000 people descended on Middletown’s National Night Out event that featured emergency services, over 40 vendors and nonprofits from around the community.

Robison said she was thrilled with the turnout and was booking kids activities and vendors up until the event started. She said the moon bounce that sat on the side of the township building was only booked a few hours before the evening kicked off at 6 p.m.

The township’s supervisors were in attendance along with Republican State Rep. Frank Farry, who is also chief of the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company. Political candidate Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican running for congress, also stopped by to talk with potential voters.

The Detective Christopher Jones Foundation collected handmade cards for police officers and ended up with more than 60 that were handed over to Middletown police, said Maura McCormick Barnes, the nonprofit’s chairperson.

The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers, TMA Bucks and Safe Kids Bucks County were also in attendance and building bonds with the community.

In 2015, Middletown hosted its first National Night Out event at three different locations throughout the municipality. The turnout was dismal and that’s why officials decided to hold one central event this year.

“This is the way to do it,” Robison said. “We’re one township.”
