Hundreds Come Out To Support Law Enforcement

Hundreds of people showed up for a law enforcement appreciation event in Levittown Monday evening.

Organizers and police officers alike were stunned by the turnout to the law enforcement appreciation event held at Levittown Fire Company No. 2 on County Way in Bristol Township.

As neighbors talked with each other, volunteer firefighters and police officers from several towns, Jay’s Steak and Hoagie Joint used their food truck to feed the large crowd. A portion of all proceeds from the food went directly to the Bucks County Heroes Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit that offers scholarships to the children of police officers, firefighters, rescue squad, correctional officers and emergency service personnel who are killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Levittown-based Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning also matched donations from Jay’s Steak and Hoagie Joint up to $1,500

“This is honestly awesome to have this many people here to support of law enforcement brothers and sisters,” said Kevin Glasson, owner of Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and a board member for Levittown Fire Company No. 2.

Police officers were impressed with 9-year-old Michael Sailman of Levittown. The boy walked up to police officers to present them with an envelope filled with money he earned holding a lemonade stand in his front yard.

Langhorne Borough Chief of Police Steven Mawhinney said he was pleased to see the large turnout at the event.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to see the community come out and support the police department,” said the chief, a former longtime Bristol Township officer.

The event was originally intended to be a fundraiser for the fire company but that all changed after the fatal ambush shooting of police officers in Dallas earlier this month, Glasson said.
