A helicopter working for PECO was over the Lower Bucks County area Monday morning and afternoon.

The contractor working for the utility company was hovering low and slow inspecting high-voltage power lines in Bensalem, Bristol Township and Falls Township Monday, according to PECO spokesman Greg Smore.
The chopper was conducting inspections as part of PECO’s annual assessment of its equipment. The focus was mainly on the high-voltage lines but distribution circuits were also eyed by the contractors, Smore said.
In addition to the sky-high inspections, PECO also will have workers on the ground make visual inspections on a regular basis.

Monday wasn’t the first time in recent weeks that a helicopter surveying utility lines has been spotted, but the most recent flight did happen to fly over densely populated areas.
System-wide, PECO uses choppers to inspect about 1,000 miles of lines.
Smore said the work is all in the name of safety.
