Bristol Township police are hoping to a receive a grant that will help them add three officers to the force.
Public Safety Director Robert Coulton said the department is applying for a Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant could fund 75 percent of the salary and benefits for three new cops over a three year period.

The township will have to put in 25 percent of the salary for the new officers, Coulton said.
The department is looking to hire the three new officers to handle quality of life complaints. Coulton explained that the officers would have flexible schedules and could be used to add extra manpower to handle spikes in crimes in concentrated areas.
After the three year grant period is up, the township would be responsible for funding the positions, the public safety director said.
