Sharon Rearick just wouldn’t give up; it paid off.
Rearick, who started the nonprofit Sidewalks Are For Everyone, was honored with a Community Service Award from TMA Bucks at their annual meeting Friday morning at Parx East in Bensalem.

Rearick, a resident of Levittown, has fought since 2012 along with her supporters to get sidewalks built along New Falls Road. Earlier this year, she received positive news that sidewalks would be built on a portion of the road in Falls Township and on both sides of New Falls Road from Durham to Bristol Oxford Valley roads in Bristol Township and Middletown.
Democratic State Rep. Tina Davis said before the award presentation that Rearick faced an uphill battled but didn’t give up.

“I made myself the crazy sidewalks lady,” Rearick said.

As part of her efforts, she raised funds, met with the community, talked with lawmakers, went before local government and shared her story with the media. Rearick knows the dangers of New Falls Road after her son John was killed after being struck by a car along the road in summer 2012.
Rearick and her husband said despite hearing that they would have trouble getting sidewalks along New Falls Road, the project is slated to begin in Bristol Township and Middletown next June and is being paid for by $1.7 million in PennDOT funds.
