The second annual Run for Woods 5K in Langhorne was a smashing success Saturday morning.

One of the biggest concerns among the staff organizers on Saturday morning was whether or not the rain and damp weather would keep people away from the race. Their worries were ill founded, as a large amount of people turned out for the race regardless of the weather.

In addition to the runners themselves, Miss Bucks County, State Representative Frank Farry (R-148) and even the Philly Phanatic made an appearance before the race kicked off. The hundreds of racers ran through the damp streets of Langhorne.

“Woods does a lot of good for a lot of people with different needs, and they are also a big employer in the community. Just looking around, you can see all the good they do,” said Farry.

Throughout the Woods’ property, event staff and volunteers were visible everywhere you looked. A number of vendors were also in attendance for the event.

Cheryl Kauffman, vice president of communications and public relations, and was largely responsible for the organization of the run. “It supports the people we serve at Woods,” Kauffman said. “Funding for people with disabilities is falling, but our expenses are rising.” Kauffman explained the important part that fundraising plays in filling the gap between actual funding the organization receives and the funding Woods needs to provide appropriate service.

According to Kauffman,ย a large amount of people registered and advance with even more racers registering right before the event.

“I think that we are just so overwhelmed that so many people came out on a day like today,” Kauffman said, referring to the weather.

Woods’ goal is to raise $200,000, and with fundraising open until May 31, the organization should easily hit their goal, according to Kauffman.
