The Bristol Township Council has approved a winning bid for the historic Sunbury Farm.

The nearly 10-acre property at 2800 Newportville Road near Ford Road in Bristol Township was sold late last month to Mar Mar Builders of Bristol for $510,000.

The council at their meeting in the end of April approved the sale. Township Manager Bill McCauley said Mar Mar Builders will pay a 10 percent buyers premium Max Spann Real Estate and Auction Company.

A phone number listed online for Mar Mar Builders was inactive and future plans for the site are not known.

The final bid price is about $140,000 less than the property’s $650,000 appraised value.

Council President Craig Bowen said last month that Bristol Township just didn’t have the funds or a sustainable plan to keep Sunbury Farm.

The roughly 10-acre property has been vacant for several years since a day care operated by the Head Start program left the property.

A portion of the 4,700-square-foot home traces its construction to the early 1700s with additions throughout the years. Aside from a few broken windows and some outdated features, the mansion seems sturdy from the outside and still has its electricity turned on.

Bristol Township purchased the Georgian-style home, which is reportedly haunted, in 1978 and the remainder of the farm property in the late 1990s, according to county records.

The property is currently zoned residential.
