Bristol Township has hired a new director for its public works department.
The hiring of David F. Capponi, who will earn $85,000, was announced Wednesday in a statement by Township Manager Bill McCauley.

Capponi will fill the role left vacant earlier this year when former Public Works Director Jason Lawson was hired to fill the same job in Falls Township. Lawson worked for the township for three decades and led the public works department for nearly 10 years.
According to a press release, Capponi has held a “variety of roles with several large construction companies during a 35-year career.” Most recently, he installed a geothermal underground pipeline at West Chester University while working for P. Santos Company.
McCauley called Capponi a “tremendous hire for Bristol Township and our public works department will excel under his leadership.”

It was no secret in the township that McCauley and Lawson did not always see eye to eye. In his news release, McCauley said he was “very confident” the new director will “instill a sense of professionalism and drastically improve the quality of work performed by our public works’ department.”
Capponi started his new job with the township on Monday.
