Penndel is on track to get a Wawa and chain pharmacy in the heart of town.

The Penndel Planning Commission granted conditional approval Thursday for the 5,600-square-foot Wawa with gas pumps and a 15,000-square-foot Rite Aid Pharmacy, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

The site of the proposed Wawa and Rite Aid sits on the corner of Bellevue Avenue and West Lincoln Highway. The property where the Wawa is proposed for also is bordered by Durham Road and Legrande, Bellevue and Park avenues.

If approved by the borough council later this spring, the development would provide an overhaul to the 3-acre lot that currently features a parking lot with weeds growing between the cracks, several small businesses and a shuttered PECO facility.

Developer Tom Verrichia reportedly has agreements with several owners of the small businesses along Lincoln Highway that would be taken down to make room for the Wawa and Rite Aid, the newspaper reported.

Officials have said in the past that if approved, the construction of the Wawa and Rite Aid would take about a year.
