The threat of cold weather and a chance of snow won’t stop area Rita’s Italian Ice locations from offering free water ice on the first day of spring.
All Rita’s Italian Ice locations will be offering free water ice cups to help welcome spring on Sunday, March 20.

It’s a tradition the company said they have been taking part in for more than 20 years. Rita’s gave away 1.2 million cups of their famous water ice on the first day of spring in 2012, according to the Bensalem-based company.
In accordance with the 21st Century, Rita’s is asking people to share their #RitasFirstDayofSpring photographs on social media. A contest based around the images is being held.
Last year, a coating of snow didn’t stop water ice lovers celebrating the spring equinox.

Former Philadelphia firefighter Bob Tumolo started the chain in Bensalem in 1984. Since then, the company has been sold and expanded with stores across the globe.
