At Monday night’s work session, Bristol Borough Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe announced that council has been spending a lot of time recently narrowing down and looking over potential candidates for the chief of police opening.
DiGuiseppe mentioned that the council spent an hour and a half in executive session discussing candidates prior to the meeting, and also spent an entire day conducting interviews last week.

Bristol’s council hired CityBurbs Group for $14,800 last year to lead the search for Bristol’s new chief. The firm, which is based in Lower Makefield, is led by that township’s police chief, Ken Coluzzi, who is a former Philadelphia police officer.
According to a job posting in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, the new chief must have a minimum of 10 years supervisory and command experience in a mid to large police department. The applicants must also have obtained the rank of lieutenant or highers. A Bachelors degree and attendance at the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University School of Staff and Command is required. The pay for the job will be $105,000 to $125,000.
In January, the council chose to allow officers within the department that wanted to apply for the position would be able to do so, even if they did not meet the minimum requirements set forth by the borough for other applicants.

Former Chief Arnold Porter retired last month after 37 yeas of service. Sgt. Joe Moors is currently the officer in charge and overseeing the department.
The council also voted unanimously, except for absent Vice President Betty Rodgriguez, to hire Joseph Harris as a part time police officer.
