Nearly 800 locals came out to support Maple Point Middle School’s third annual student-council hosted event ‘Coaches vs. Cancer’ on Friday evening, helping to raise $7,500 for the American Cancer Society, a $3,000 increase from last year.
The night, which featured a 7th and 8th grade boys basketball doubleheader game against sister school Carl Sandburg, also held a series of auctions with an unbelievable lineup of prizes featuring tickets to amusement parks, sporting events, concerts, scholarships to camps, gift cards to restaurants, fitness centers and salons, and various sports memorabilia.

Officials noted that a special moment of silence was held before the games began forย Chris Rogers, a former Neshaminy football captain and graduate of the class of 1991, who lost his battle with lung cancer just last week.
“We were humbled and honored to have a number of area high school and college coaches in attendance supporting our efforts. There is a great fraternity of coaches in Bucks County supporting CvC,” said Neil French, a coach, teacher and adviser for the school. “I want you all to know that at the heart of this event were 28 7th and 8th grade Student Council members. They are the greatest kids you would even want to know and have worked tirelessly to make this event a success. They represent the absolute best this district has to offer.”
