The resdistricting that comes along with the Bristol Township School District’s elementary school consolidation is expected to make attendance for some students a bit more cohesive.
The plan for what neighborhoods will go to which one of the district’s three new 1,300-student was laid out recently by administrator Lou deFonteny.

The district looked to keep students going to schools as their neighbors and make the commute for some students easier. The current district map has some students trekking past closer schools, deFonteny said.
“The goal was to keep students going to class with their neighbors and classmates from the current nine schools,” he said.
At the elementary level, Keystone Elementary School will host life skills students, Mill Creek Elementary School will have autistic support courses and Brookwood Elementary School will have emotional support programs. DeFonteny said students with special instructional programs will have their needs evaluated if they need to be placed in programs their home school doesn’t have.

When the three new elementary schools are fully open come September, they will each have roughly 1,250 student in each building, deFonteny said.
School Board Vice President Constance Moore said the change will mark the first time in years that students from the Bloomsdale-Fleetwing neighborhood will all go the same elementary school.

A large increase in enrollment from the upper portion of Bristol Township has led to redistricting of the middle school zones. As of this year, Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School has 520 students enrolled and Neil A. Armstrong Middle School has 430 students.
DeFonteny said the redistricting will even enrollment out to 497 students at FDR and 492 students at Armstrong.
“With these changes, we’re able to bring these numbers closer together,” he said.
