The solution to the influx of clusteredย recovery homes in Bristol Township mayย be coming to fruition.

Bristol Township officials, with the assistance of solicitor Randy Flager, approved a curative amendment Thursday night that declares sections of their township zoning ordinance to be invalid. The resolution, which was approved unanimously, allows for the township’s legal team to now take steps in reorganizing and rewriting their zoning in an effort to create a specific use for and regulations ofย group homes.

An update to the township’s zoning, which has yet to occur, will then have to be advertised twice before it can be approved in the coming months by township officials.

According to the resolution passed by council, the township does not wish to limit the use of recovery homes, but better regulate them to account for the health, safety and welfare of all township residents, including residents of group homes.

The original zoning ordinance became effective in the township nearly 14 years ago.

Council Vice President Amber Longhitano, who has long fought for tougher zoning regulations when it comes to recovery homes in the township, thanked Flager and his team for their hard work in getting this far.
