The Delaware Riverkeeper Network will be hosting a meeting on a proposed hazardous waste treatment facility planned for Falls Township.
The Bristol Borough-based nonprofit that works to protect the Delaware River will host their gathering Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Bucks County Free Library’s Levittown branch at 7311 New Falls Road in Bristol Township’s Levittown section.

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network has opposed the treatment facility proposed for a 22-acre site at 100 Dean Sievers Place in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex.
Opponents of the facility worry about the potential risks that could come with a leak or spill. The Philadelphia Water Department warned that a leak could impact the drinking water for millions of people. Opponents also worry about the hazardous waste that will transported to the facility via truck and train.
Dr. Rengarajan Ramesh, a consultant for Elcon, has called the proposed facility “clean, green, and sustainable.” Elcon, which operates a similar site in Israel, would treat liquid waste from various locations, heat it up and place it in pools to evaporate.

Elcon has met with the public numerous times over the past year in an attempt to introduce a treatment facility to the Keystone Industrial Port Complex.
In November, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced Elcon has conformed with its Phase I exclusionary siting criteria and is currently in the next phase of the application process.
