Cops: Man Attempts To Illegally Purchase Firearm

The Pennsylvania State Police Firearm Division hasย concluded their investigation into a 26-year-old man who they claim illegally attempting to purchase a firearm back in June.

The request for an investigation was initiated after the man from Bristol Township’s West Bristol section attempted to purchase a 12-gauge shotgun from Dicks Sporting Goods in Falls Township.

Police allegeย they obtained paperwork for the man and found he had been barred from legally purchasing weapons due to a previous mental health commitment.

A probable cause affidavit notes Matthew Ray Butler Jr., 26, filled out ATF Form 4473 as part of the attempted firearm transaction and was not truthful when answering one of the questions.

Butler was charged with making a false statement, a statement under penalty and prohibited possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $50,000 unsecured.
