A November multi-agency DUI enforcement program involving Penndel and Middletown police netted 10 drivers on suspicion of driving intoxicated.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced this week that the grant-funded DUI enforcement along the Street Road corridor not only netted the 10 drivers but led to the investigation of an incident where a 21-year-old Bensalem man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was thrown from a vehicle. Police alleged the driver of the vehicle was impaired at the time of the incident.

The DUI charges against the 10 drivers are either pending or working their way through the court system, officials said.
The five-hour-long Street Road enforcement involved officers from Bensalem, Hilltown, Lower Southampton, Middletown, Penndel, Upper Southampton, Warminster, Warrington and Warwick.
On New Year’s Eve, 11 officers from Bensalem, Middletown, New Britain, Warrington and Warwick Townships and Penndel Borough will supplement the regular patrols along the Route 611 corridor in Central Bucks County. Bucks County authorities are working with Montgomery County police in Horsham and Upper Moreland to extend the range of the patrols.

“New Year’s Eve is a great time to celebrate with our friends and family,” Assistant District Attorney Matt Weintraub said. “We just ask that if you do, then do so safely. If you drink, please be responsible. Have a designated driver, stay over, call a cab, call Uber. Just don’t put yourself and others at risk by drinking and driving.”
Bucks County police responded to 11 DUI-related crashes during the last New Year’s holiday, according to PennDOT records.

Lower Bucks County police departments and Pennsylvania State Police are also expected to increase DUI patrols during the New Year’s holiday.
Four more county-wide DUI enforcement patrols are planned for 2016. Weintraub told LevittownNow.com in November that at least one will be in the Middletown and Newtown area.
In 2013 and 2014, 23 people in Bucks County were killed in crashes involving intoxicated drivers.

“I’m hoping people will take the hint and we won’t have to make any arrests,” Weintraub said last month. “But I suspect we will make plenty.
