Dr. Melanie Gehrens will lead the Bristol Township School District into the future.
Gehrens was appointed by the school board this month to fill the vacant superintendent position. Gehrens has held the interim position since Dr. Sam Lee left the district for the superintendent job in Bensalem in summer.

Speaking before the board and public, Gehrens said she was “honored and proud” to take the superintendent job.
The contract for the new top leader at the district will begin January 1 and run until June 30, 2019.
Board President Angela Nober said the district and Gehrens are still negotiating Gehrens’ pay for the term of the contract. Currently, Gehrens earns a monthly stipend of $1,200 in addition to her current yearly salary of approximately $132,000.

Gehrens will take the helm the week the district will open two new 1,300-student elementary schools. She will also see the district through contract negotiations, the opening of a new elementary school in Croydon, work to implement more STEM classes and plans to update the district’s aging middle schools and high school.
Gehrens came to Bristol Township several years ago after working for the Morrisville School District. She has worked as the supervisor of secondary curriculum and instruction in Bristol Township since 2008.

Gehrens previously was in the running for the superintendent position in the Scranton School District. She was a finalist but lost out to a school administrator for Atlanta.
