Although it has been around for 40 years, the United Way’s Operation Helping Hand food drive has gained a business sponsor for the first time.

Pledging support in the way of financial support and volunteering and logistics, Inspire Federal Credit Union of Bristol Township is stepping up to help United Way fillย local food pantries.

According to a press release provided by United Way, the drive collected more than 45,000 pounds of food in 2015. The same release claims that 15 percent of children in the county, as well as one in ten adults are considered food insecure.

“Operation Helping Hand is a one-day food drive that occurs annually in March. Food is collected through public schools, private schools, child care centers, senior centers, and government offices in Bucks County. Each collection site is matched with a local pantry, making this a hyper-local opportunity to help others,” the press release says.
