Bristol Township police didn’t have to go far from the scene of the crime to catch a burglary suspect.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Jomar Butler-Mercado, 24, of Bristol Township’s Levittown section, is accused of taking two safes with valuable items inside from his neighbor’s home.

Bristol Township police were called to the 2500 block of Palmer Avenue last Wednesday to investigate a burglary. The resident told police two safes filled with $7,500 in rare and collectible coins, tax documents and $1,000 cash were taken in a burglary at his home, according to court papers.
The two safes were removed through an unsecured window, police said.
Two days after the burglary, the neighbor of the victim reportedly told authorities his son was responsible and his son wanted to confess.

According to court papers, Butler-Mercado used a pry bar to break open the two safes, causing $450 in damage.
All the stolen items were recovered, police said.

Butler-Mercado was charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. He was arraigned and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
