Despite some negative connotations surrounding police across the country, residents in the Bristol Township’s Magnolia Hill neighborhood have decided to “paint the section blue” to thank the local officers for their service.

“We are all so tired of hearing how bad the police are and the tragic increase in officer murders,” said Scot Colby of the Levittown section’s town watch group. “Officers are brave people that put on a shield everyday to constantly be put down and attacked. We wanted to help build the morale of our local force.”

Colby said the Magnolia Hill project, which began with covering the section with blue ribbons starting September 29, was a way to signify not only their gratefulness for the men and women who wake each day to serve the department, but also the positive relationship that has formed between the section’s neighbors and members of the force.

“Our cause was a simple one, to thank the Bristol Township police officers for serving and protecting us. We know they cannot be successful without public help,” he told LevittownNow.com. “It’s just a small gesture but we hope it goes a long way for them.

Colby said the group formed the town watch about a year ago, and the township police have been instrumental in helping the group grow. “The relationship keeps our [section] as one of the most crime free in Levittown,” he said.

Colby said while he planned to leave the ribbons up for a short time, he will now leave them up until late October.
