Forecasters Call For Rain, Possibly A Tropical System, To Impact Area

Forecasters are calling for possible rain amounts of 4 to 6 inches over the next week.

The National Weather Service in Mt. Holly, New Jersey is calling for 1 to 2 inches of rain to fall in the Levittown area between Tuesday evening and Thursday evening. In the follow days, more rain is expected and a tropical weather system could drop in.

Here’s the forecast for the next few days:

  • Tuesday Night: Showers likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 70. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 76. South wind 8 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 54. Northeast wind 15 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Thursday: Rain likely, mainly after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Breezy, with a northeast wind 14 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Thursday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 53. Northeast wind 13 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Friday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Saturday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Saturday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Forecasters warn the prolonged rain could bring flash flooding and even possible river flooding. They also said winds later in the week would come from the northeast and intensify.

The National Hurricane Center in Florida said Tropical Storm Joaquin, which remains thousands of miles south over the Atlantic Ocean, could directly impact the east coast, possibly even New Jersey. No matter where the storm makes landfall the Mt. Holly weather office noted in a briefing that the storm will bring rainfall to the Philadelphia area in the coming days.
