The residents of Bristol Borough will get the chance this November to vote on whether to increase funding for the ambulance squad that covers their town.
The Bristol Borough Council approved a ballot item that will let voters pick as to whether to give the Bucks County Rescue Squad additional funding. The ballot referendum will ask voters to allow for a tax millage of 2 mills starting in 2016, according to Borough Manager Jim Dillon.

Currently, the Bristol Borough Council cannot give any more money to the Rescue Squad. The current millage rate that the rescue squad receives is .75 mills, according to Borough Manager James Dillon.
If the rescue squad that serves a portion of Bristol Township and all of Bristol Borough does not receive a boost in funding, they will be unable to operate at their current level. Last year, there were more than 2,000 medical calls the medical crews responded to.
Council member Lorraine Cullen said she liked the idea that the ballot would put the choice to increase taxes to fund the rescue squad in the voters hands.
