First There Was hitchBOT, Now There Is #PopeBotPhilly

In the wake of the vandalism and dismantling of goodwill experiment hitchBOT, popular radio personalities Preston and Steve on 93.3 WMMR have created the PopeBot.

The new robot, which is mirrored in the image of the Pope, began his trip that will hopefully take him around the Delaware Valley on Monday.

From PopeBot’s page:

Hello, Iโ€™m Pope Bot. Inspired by my friend, #HitchBot, who sadly met his demise in Philadelphia, I am taking a journey around the Delaware Valley. The goal of my adventure is to prove to the Vatican that this area is a safe environment for the leader of the church. Plus, there is a prize each week for one person who gives me a lift!

PopeBot is designed similarly to hitchBOT, who was destroyed two weeks ago in Philadelphia, and the concept is the same: strangers give PopeBot a lift around the area, keeping it for no longer than two hours, and then leaving the robot for another person to move it along. All this happens while sharing the robot’s adventures on social media using the hashtag #PopeBotPhilly.

So far, PopeBot has made his way through Chester County and part of Philadelphia. Could Bucks County be his next stop?
