Derrick Backer was hired to lead the grant-funded position that will work with law enforcement, local businesses, schools and the community to reduce the number of annual highway deaths in Bucks County.

Backer comes to Trevose-based TMA Bucks after recently serving as a legislative director in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Bloomsburg University.

The PennDOT-funded grant helps TMA Bucks work with towns that have areas with statistically higher numbers of traffic-related fatalities including teens and senior citizens. Backer will work to identify behaviors that contribute to higher crash rates such as aggressive driving, driving under the influence and distracted driving.

โ€œTMA Bucks is excited to have Derrick on board to continue to manage this important and life-saving program in Bucks County,โ€ said TMA Bucks executive director Bill Brady. โ€œOur organization remains committed to providing leadership on highway safety issues in the county and Derrick will continue to lead that charge.โ€
