Middletown’s St. Mary Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) will be working together to provide enhanced neonatal and pediatric emergency care for families in the area.
The agreement between the hospitals will assign CHOP neonatologists and pediatricians to St. Mary Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pediatric Emergency Care Center around-the-clock. The partnership will put CHOP specialists and physicians in St. Mary Medical Center’s new NICU, which opened in spring.

“This agreement with CHOP, one of the most prestigious specialized hospitals and the first hospital in the nation devoted exclusively to the care of children, enables St. Mary to elevate and expand services while providing the highest quality care to those patients who entrust their lives to us each and every day,” said St. Mary Medical Center President and CEO Greg Wozniak.
While the partnership with CHOP began providing neonatal services last Saturday, the pediatric emergency care services will begin October 1.
Last year, more 2,400 babies were born at St. Mary Medical Center and 133 needed care in the NICU, hospital officials said.
