New Jersey authorities have identified the 24-year-old man found dead in the Delaware River in Burlington City.
Burlington police said Thomas Scott of Edgewater Park, New Jersey died Sunday evening as the result of what appears to be an accidental drowning. He went missing while swimming in the river and his body was found around 8:45 p.m.

Authorities have said Scott’s drowning death is not related to that of a 22-year-old Virginia man who remains missing after he disappeared into the river in Bristol Borough on Sunday morning.ย ย The search in Bristol resumed Monday morning.

The initial investigation revealed that Mr. Scott and two friends were attempting to swim across the Delaware River from the Burlington Mainland over to Burlington Island. At the approximate halfway point to the island, witnesses described that Mr. Scott was having trouble staying afloat and went under the water. Local boaters attempted to rescue Mr. Scott prior to Emergency Crews arrived, but were unsuccessful. Mr. Scottโs vehicle was located at the City Boat Ramp on East Pearl Street.
Bucks County authorities assisted New Jersey police in the incident.
