Police in Falls Township have arrested a Levittown man after they allege heroin induced behavior caused him to attack his ex-girlfriend.
Richard Groom, 22, was arrested and charged with use or possession of drug paraphernalia, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and three other offenses. He was released on $75,000 unsecured bail.

According to court documents, officers responded to the 30 block of Primrose Lane in Levittown shortly after 1 a.m on Friday for reports of an assault. Police noted the victim, Groom’s ex-girlfriend, had been punched in the face several times. She said she also sustained a bite to her right hand and a restricted airway after Groom wrapped his arm around her neck.
The victim noted to police that her brother had heard the incident and had entered the room and forcibly removed Groom off of her to stop the alleged attack, as noted in a probable cause affidavit.
Falls police noted that Groom’s eyes were pinpointed at the scene and he fell in and out of consciousness during the investigation. Police also noted fluid sounds associated with his breathing and transported him to the hospital where he was treated for a drug overdose.

After medical treatment Groom informed officers that he had been invited inside the home by his ex-girlfriend where they then used four bags of heroin.
Police observed blood stains on the bedroom rug, a syringe in the bathroom trash and a black cloth case which contained a clear plastic baggie, a straw and a white powdery substance inside the residence.

Groom awaits a preliminary hearing with District Judge Jan Vislosky set for August 4.
