The Bristol Borough School Board approved a new budget without raising taxes for residents.
The budget, which was adopted by all present members of the board, allots $22.4 million for the school district for next year. With the current millage rate of 154, a taxpayer who owns a property assessed at $16,400 (the borough average) will pay roughly $2,500 in school taxes next year.

According to School Board President John D’Angelo, this is the seventh year in a row where taxes have not been raised for the borough.
During the meeting, D’Angelo congratulated the whole of the faculty of the district, including Kelly Rosado, the principal of Snyder-Girrotti Elementary School, on coming up with new and inventive ways of teaching while keeping costs down.
“He did an outstanding, respectable job. I’m sure the board feels the same,” the district solicitor Louis Hornstein explained of Christopher McHugh, the district’s business manager. This is the first year McHugh has put together the budget on his own since taking over for the previous manager.

According to McHugh, this year’s budget is a success due to the fact that there will be no tax increase. McHugh explained that without the help of Superintendent Thomas Shaffer, Rosado and the budget committee, the district would not have to raise taxes.
The budget committee consisted of Charles Groff, John D’Angelo, Dave Chichilitti and Kelly Cochran.

According to McHugh, the allotted school district budget will be used for “salaries, benefits, professional services, purchased services, other services, supplies, equipment, miscellaneous and financing.”
“Kudos to those who got the budget through without a tax increase,” Hornstein said.
In addition to approving the budget for the next school year, the board also accepted a bid to repair the boiler room roof at the high school. The agreement is with Garland/DBS Inc., and according to the agreement adopted at the meeting, will not exceed the cost of $59,294.
