About 100 volunteers descended to Falls Township Community Park Friday to install roughly 65,000 American flags.
Starting Saturday morning, the Delaware Valley Vietnam Veterans’ 30th Annual Donald W. Jones Flag Memorial will open to the public with several bands starting at noon.

On Sunday, a motorcycle rally will kick off at the Bristol Township Vietnam Veterans Memorial outside the municipal complex on Bath Road at noon. The group will then head over to the flag display and hold a ceremony to remember all who gave their life in the line of service.
Ed Sabol, a veteran and one of the organizers, said volunteers will be needed around 2:30 p.m. Sunday to help disassemble the memorial.

The incredible display took only a few hours to set up Friday. With volunteers starting before 9 a.m., the 65,000 flags were carefully staked in the fields at the park under the guidance of organizers, Sabol said. He added that a group of Army National Guard troops also volunteered their time to set up.

Organizers said the large display features 60,000 flags in a line as long as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Another 5,000 flags were used to make a star design. Sabol said the design that featured a black prisoner of war flags has shrunk in recent years as more remains of soldiers missing in Vietnam have been identified.
On Friday, a small ceremony was held at the completion of the set up. There were several people from several states in attendance.
