The Falls Township Police Department will soon have new firearms.

The Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of 61 new firearms for the department Tuesday evening during their regularly scheduled meeting. The guns, which will be purchased for $100 per gun from Firing Line Inc., were not discussed in detail by the department or the supervisors in an effort to maintain officer security.

According to Lt. Hank Ward, Cpl. Gerard Piasecki helped gather the quote through his work and experiences in armory. The average retail price per gun is about $300 above the quote secured by the township, Ward said.

The purchase of the guns is in response to wear and tear on the firearms already used by the township. According to Ward, nine of the department’s guns failed during qualifying tests.

The department’s existing guns will be turned over to Firing Line Inc. through the use of a gun dealer.
