Bristol Township Councilman Joe Glasson has fought for local fire companies during his time in the governing body. Recently, it was announced his efforts have paid off.
All of Bristol Township’s fire volunteer fire companies – Croydon Fire Company, Edgely Fire Company, Levittown Fire Company No. 2, Newportville Fire Company and Third District Fire Company – will receive $20,000 each for upgrades or the purchase of life-saving equipment, council President Craig Bowen announced Thursday.

The money was approved when the 2015 budget went through and was funded from a surplus in the 2013 budget. The money on top of tax millage funding is provided to the fire companies yearly.
“I am extremely pleased to announce that the Township Council will be giving an additional $100,000 to our volunteer fire companies to purchase life-saving equipment for our volunteers,” he said in a statement.
Glasson, a volunteer firefighter in the township since he was a teenager, lobbied for the $100,000 in funding for the companies that service the town’s 54,000 residents and thousands more who work in the community every day, officials said. Former council President Bob Lewis referred to the extra money as “Glasson Grants,” which stuck.

“Joe Glasson lobbied very hard for the volunteer firefighters to share in the successful financial results of the Township,” Bowen said.
Township officials will present the “Glasson Grants” to the fire companies at their April 16 meeting.
