Former Falls Township supervisor and state lawmaker Milton Berkes passed away recently at the age of 90.

Berkes, the former chairman of the Bucks County Democratic Party, was remembered at services earlier this week.

“Mr. Berkes’ proudest achievement, however, wasn’t politics. It was authoring Pennsylvania’s 1972 Drug and Alcohol Abuse Control Act. The so-called “Berkes bill” redefined drug abuse as a health problem and allowed counties to establish treatment programs with federal money,” a Philly.com story by reporter Ben Finley says.
