Neshaminy Board Agrees To Lease Everitt School For 5 Years

Samuel Everitt Elementary School will have a new tenant come July.

The Neshaminy School Board voted 6-2 Tuesday evening to approve a five-year lease for the building between the district and the Bucks County Intermediate Unit. Board members Ron Rudy and Mike Morris were the lone dissenting votes. Board President Scott Congdon was not present.

Starting July 1, the Everitt building on Forsythia Drive South will be turned over to the IU for the price of $309,000 for the first year. For the next four years, the rent will increase by 3 percent.

The IU current uses the Tawanka School on Brownsville Road in Lower Southampton. That building is set to be taken down as the district plans to build a new 900-student school at the site. The IU’s lease for the Tawanka School ends this summer.

The Everitt school, while built in the 1950s, is still structurally sound and does not need any major immediate upgrades, district officials have said in the past.

“I feel like they’ve been a good tenant and a good asset to our community,” board member Sue Cummings said of the IU.

When the board voted to close Everitt in March, a variety of residents spoke both against and in favor of closing the building.

Students who would have attended Everitt next year will be redistricted.
