One young local mother is in jail after police say she shot up heroin in the same room as her two-year-old daughter.

Catherine Evans, 22, of Falls Township, was arrested Monday evening and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Falls police say Evans, who is known by her parents to do heroin,ย was found shortly before 7 p.m. Monday night “passed out with a needle in her arm,” in the upstairs bedroom of her parents home on Newberry Lane, when her mother heard Evans’ two-year-old daughter screaming and crying hysterically.

According to police, Evans’ mother was able to wake Evans up and remove the young child from the room before calling police.

Shortly after, Evans became “hostile and argumentative” and fled on foot, according to court documents.

Police were able to locate three bags of heroin in Evans’ bedroom, along with six more bags of heroin newly discarded in the middle of the intersection at North Park Drive and Newberry Lane in the North Park section of Levittown, according to the affidavit of probable cause. Police said they also found a bag on North Park Drive which contained two syringes, an empty pill bottle and a cigarette pack with at least 20 bags of used heroin, all of which was taken into evidence by investigators.

After police contacted Children and Youth, Evans returned home where she signed over temporary custody of her daughter to her mother. Evans was then arrested and taken into custody.
